It is becoming clear that the decision to rezone the area around Lake Auburn to allow houses to be built there is just another way of taking money from the rest of us and giving it to the very rich.
Let me explain.
Someone is going to become extremely rich from this decision. The developer and the builders will make lots of money, more money than most of us can ever imagine.
In five to 10 years from now, after all of these houses are built, when the algae blooms in Lake Auburn force the Twin Cities to build a filtration plan, the rest of us will have to fund the $50 million water filtration plant. We will all pay the price through increased property tax and water bills.
But isn’t this the American way? Someone makes a lot of money and leaves the mess for the rest of us to clean up.
The old mills in town are a prime example. Someone made a lot of money, and federal and state taxpayers had to clean up their mess.
I would support the rezoning as long as the homeowners and the developer fund a $50 million rebatement fund that could be used to build a new filtration plant when it needs to be built.
I am tired of paying to clean up the messes of the very rich.
