For 98 1/2 years the Auburn Water District has successfully adhered to its by-laws to “prevent pollution of the water of Lake Auburn and to preserve the purity of said water.”

Until now, the AWD never had to call an emergency meeting to hire a PR firm to do “damage control.”

What has changed? Mayor Jason Levesque has removed Lake Auburn protection-minded trustees and replaced them with pro-development trustees. The AWD’s main focus is no longer to “Protect Lake Auburn,” as hundreds of residents are asking with signs on their lawns.

I’m sure at the direction of Mayor Levesque, AWD President Steve Milks hired his business partner with $10,000 of ratepayer money to start a campaign to “Love Lake Auburn.” The new website allows questions, but at a recent meeting trustees asked “who is answering these questions?” “Who holds the information from the website?” “What happens after the contract ends on June 28?”

The answers were evasive, and the public was not allowed to get clarification. Shouldn’t the trustees have known this information beforehand? Does Milks have to check with Mayor Levesque to find out how to reply to his trustees?

Most disheartening was the way we were treated by the trustees who bow to the powers of Milks and the puppet master. Obviously, trustees believe it is no longer about “Protect Lake Auburn” — it’s about “Love Lake Auburn” and the deception and manipulation that program is creating.

We have lots of questions — no answers.
