NORWAY — The annual Norway Triathlon has named local business, Lakeside Norway, as its title sponsor for the 2022 Triathlon. This year the event will be held at Lake Pennesseewassee on Saturday, July 9 at Pennesseewassee Park. After being held at a limited size for the past two years, 2022’s triathlon is set to run at its maximum race capacity of approximately 120 individuals and teams. Sanctioned by USATriathlon, it is a perfect sprint tri for experienced athletes or first-time competitors.

Individuals and teams of all ages and abilities are encouraged to compete. Tri competitors will begin with a 750-meter swim, followed by a 20 km bike, and a 5 km run, ending back at Pennesseewassee Park. An awards ceremony and celebration will conclude the event. Proceeds for the Lakeside Norway Triathlon benefit the Western Foothills Land Trust (WFLT).

“As a community-focused facility with a passion for outdoor education and recreation, we are thrilled to show our support for the Western Foothills Land Trust,” said Jason Shiers, owner of Lakeside Norway. The historic property on Lake Pennesseewassee is in the final permitting stages to be revitalized as a hub for outdoor activity in western Maine. Lakeside Norway is the future home of the Norway Brewing Company tasting room and brew house as well as Norway Dock and Storage.

The 2022 Lakeside Norway Triathlon will be following Maine CDC guidelines for outdoor sports events and USAT guidelines for multi-sport events. USATriathlon sanctioning means that an event follows the safety and staffing requirements set by USAT, and ensures a safe and fair competitive race environment. Norway Triathlon racers will also be eligible to compete in other race events supported by USAT. Registration, course maps, and detailed race information can be found at www.norwaytri.com.

WFLT is dedicated to the conservation and preservation of native ecosystems, farm and forest lands, watersheds, and scenic landscapes for the benefit of wild and human communities in western Maine. In addition, the Trust helps to provide experiential environmental education for youth and expand outdoor recreation opportunities for all ages and abilities throughout Oxford County on their preserves and trails.

Anyone interested in seeing the excitement of a triathlon while assisting the Western Foothills Land Trust should consider volunteering for the morning. We need helpers on the run and bike courses and additional kayakers. To volunteer, please contact info@wfltmaine.org.
