Roland J Bellegarde

RUMFORD – Roland J. Bellegarde, 87, passed away surrounded by his loving family. Roland was born on Jan. 30, 1935 in Rumford, the son of Cyrille and Grace (Tanguay) Bellegarde.

He attended Rumford Schools. He worked at Diamond Match Company for 29 years. Roland also worked for James Knight Carpentry and kept busy doing many odd jobs and always lending a hand to anyone in need.

His greatest joy in life was being a husband to his loving wife Maryanne (LeBlanc) Bellegarde of 63 years and a proud father to their six children. His grandchildren adored their Bumpa and will miss him dearly.

Roland loved hunting, snowmobiling with his son Kevin, tinkering on cars and cutting firewood. He also enjoyed taking weekly rides to visit family and friends, nightly calls to loved ones to catch up on the days events and looked forward to watching episodes of Gunsmoke with his faithful canine companion and best friend Kevie by his side. Roland was a hard worker, a true gentleman, honest, kind, and never said a bad word about anyone.

He leaves behind his wife Maryanne; their five daughters and spouses, Linda Law and husband David, Brenda Smith and husband Daniel all of Weld, Wanda Child and husband Thomas of Peru, Nancy Norberg of South Portland and Karen White and husband Roger of Rumford. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Amanda Bean and husband Jason of Saco, Adam Law and partner Ron Bataclan of California, Ashley Smith of Weld, Darren Smith of Saco, Chad Child and wife Tammy of North Carolina, Erin Child and fiancé Dan Ludwig, Ryan Child and companion Jen Fuller all of Peru, Samual and Isaac Norberg of South Portland, Makayla Taylor and husband Nick of Richmond, Liza White of Old Town, Steven Averill of Carthage, Jeremy Bellegarde and fiancé Alyssa Holmquist of Dixfield, Jessica Robinson and husband Dan of Bethel. He also leaves behind a daughter-in-law Laura Pingree and husband Tim of Mexico, brothers Fernande of Rumford, Noel of Dixfield, Lionel and wife Gloria of Winthrop, and a sister Mary-Jane Gauvin of Springfield, Mass.; several great-grand children; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; son Kevin; brothers Eugene, Conrad, Reginald and Norman, sisters Theresa Prevost, Georgette Holmquist and Francis Gallant.

Graveside services will be held 1:30 p,m. on Friday, July 8, 2022 at St John Cemetery in Rumford. Arrangements are under the direction of the Meader & Son Funeral Home 3 Franklin St Rumford, ME.
