PALMYRA — A woman was charged with setting a fire on Warren Hill Road that destroyed a house, two motor homes and substantially damaged a garage, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Public Safety said Friday.
Alison Trask, 44, was arrested and taken to the Somerset County Jail following the fire that was reported about 3:30 a.m. Thursday. She’s facing counts of arson, reckless conduct and aggravated criminal mischief, according to a news release issued by Shannon Moss with the Department of Public Safety.
The home was not occupied but Trask and her boyfriend were living in an apartment above the garage, Moss said. They were there with two other people when the fire occurred, Moss said. All four were able to exit safely and none were hurt.
A fire official had said earlier that the garage was destroyed in the fire, but Moss on Friday described it as extensively damaged. The two motor homes were earlier described as campers.
The incident was first reported as a camper fire. When firefighters arrived at 1003 Warren Hill Road, the flames had already reached the house, the motor homes and the unattached garage.
Investigators with the Office of State Fire Marshal spent Thursday at the scene before taking Trask into custody without incident, Moss said.
Trask was on probation for a prior drug offense.
It was not clear Friday if Trask or her boyfriend were renting the apartment or owned the property. Moss said authorities will not disclose where the fire began because the investigation remains active.
