AUBURN — Starting pitcher Addison Collins had a dominant performance Sunday for Auburn in the 10U Babe Ruth state softball championship at Sweetser Field at Auburn Suburban.

Collins struck out 10 batters in an 11-1, four-inning victory over Lisbon.

“I just had to have confidence in myself when I was hitting and in the circle,” Collins said.

She carried the momentum from Saturday’s game, where she struck out eight batters Lisbon batters as Auburn defeated Lisbon 12-5 in the winner’s bracket to advance to Sunday’s championship game.

Auburn has earned an automatic berth into the Babe Ruth 10U World Series in Treasure Coast, Florida, scheduled for July 28 to Aug. 6. The team has not decided if it will participate in the tournament.

Lisbon got to the championship game by defeating Andy Valley earlier Sunday, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth in an 8-7 walk-off win.  It was Lisbon’s second win over Andy Valley in the tournament, the first coming Friday night.

“Our championship was the game before (versus Andy Valley),” Lisbon coach Chris Bickford said. “That comeback was awesome for this team.”

Bickford added his team knew it was going to be challenging going up Addison for a second straight day.

Audrey Mileikis started the Auburn scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI double. Addison Collins and Alyssa Davis each had an RBI single as Auburn scored six in the inning to take a 6-0 lead.

“The more you can get your top of the order up to bat, the better off you are,” Auburn coach Allyson Collins said. “They very good on the bases as well.”

Addison Collins struck out the side in the top of the first and second innings.

“We wanted to keep base runners off (the bases) as best as we could,” Allyson Collins said. “Addison did a great job did a great job today. Having Audrey (Mileikis) behind the plate stopping everything was huge.”

Auburn extended its lead in the bottom of the second on Evie Kvedar’s groundout to third base scored Collins and Davis for an 8-1 lead.

MaKenna Schmou notched a single off of Collins in the top of the fourth for Lisbon’s first hit of the game. She scored Lisbon’s only run on a Hayden Dubois groundout.

“We got the no-hitter and shutout out of the way all in the same inning,” Bickford said. “I am proud of that.”

Auburn scored three times in the bottom of the fourth. Mileikis led the inning off with a single and scored later in the inning, giving Auburn a 9-1 lead. A Davis single scored Collins as Auburn took 10-1 lead.

Evie Kvedar single scored Davis to end the game via the 10-run rule.
