Police: Massachusetts man, 19, charged in murder of Skowhegan woman

SKOWHEGAN — A Massachusetts man has been charged with murder after police responded to an assault report early Saturday and discovered a dead 20-year-old woman and a male with a head injury, according to police.

Jason Servil, 19, has been charged in the death of Alice Abbott of Skowhegan, according to Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Officers from Skowhegan police were called to 912 Canaan Road at about 5:45 a.m. after a reported assault, Moss said.

When officers arrived, they located the caller, a Madison man who had a head injury, and another person. They then found Abbott’s body.

The male caller, whom police have not identified, was staying overnight at the house where Abbott lived with her parents.

An investigation Saturday by Maine State Police detectives and evidence technicians and Skowhegan police led officers to arrest Servil on the murder charge. He was arrested at about 3:20 p.m.

“The decision to charge Servil was made Saturday afternoon following a discussion between the State Police and the Maine Attorney General’s office,” Moss wrote in a statement released Sunday to the news media.

An autopsy Sunday conducted by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta ruled Abbott’s death a homicide.

The male who reported the assault to police was transported to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan, where he was treated and released.

Moss identified Servil as “an acquaintance” of Abbott.

Servil was taken to the Somerset County Jail in Madison, where he remained in custody Sunday night.
