Winslow Rouse, well known throughout the east as the boy soprano, arrived in Bath on Saturday to spend his vacation at the Rouse Island home on Todd’s Bay in Georgetown. He sang at the White Stone Church at Bretton Woods, N.H. and last season was singing on the Chautauqua circuit. Just now his voice is changing, and he is looking forward to a real vacation this summer with no concert engagements to interrupt his playtime. His father, Winslow Rouse, of Roxbury, Mass., is a Bath native and will come down in August for a month with his family who arrived on Saturday.

July 26th and 27th are the days selected by the John R. Foster Post Veterans of Foreign Wars for holding the carnival at the grounds of the Grammar School. The affair, according to preliminary plans, will be quite elaborate. It will consist of 9 combined carnival and lawn parties. Among the feature attractions will be devices to test skill and nerve. There will be the artful dodger, rolling bowl alleys, hoopla and other attractions. There will also be a reserved section for those who enjoy lighter and less noisy forms of amusement where ice cream and soft drinks will be dispensed and where children may find plenty to amuse themselves. The proceeds will be used in fitting up the organization’s club rooms.

Over 2,000 persons are expected at NAS Brunswick tonight, July 18, for the “Flight Suit Social”. The Tony Boffa Band with an extra-large horn section will wail out tunes by Tommy Dorsey, Glen Miller and Benny Goodman, as old black and white movies project on large screens and mirrored lights sparkle against walls covered with old posters and war memorabilia. To add to the vintage aviation theme, GEN. Hap Arnold’s personal WWII (C-41) aircraft will be on display. Party-goers can dress casual or come in attire from the 40s or 50s, or dress in World War II garb or flight suits. Saddle shoes and flight boots are ‘in’, hush puppies and Tevas are ‘out.’

A  $7 ticket buys hours for great music, lots of free food and a “great night” reminiscent of VE day. Hangar doors open at 7 p.m. and the party lasts until after 11 p.m.

The material used in Looking Back is produced exactly as it originally appeared although misspellings and errors may be corrected.
