JAY — A Picnic and Paddle on the Androscoggin River will be held Saturday to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the passage of the of the federal Clean Water Act.
The event is hosted by the Androscoggin Land Trust and Androscoggin River Watershed Council.
Participants must preregister in order to get a lunch count. They will meet at 9 a.m. at Pine Island, which can be accessed off Riley Road. The paddle will end at Spruce Mountain. It will take about 30 to 40 minutes, Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere said.
There will be a short break at Spruce Mountain to talk about the trails and future plans the Land Trust has before paddling back to Pine Island for lunch. Lunch will be provided by Berry Fruit Farm.

The Clean Water Act, which set water quality standards, was inspired by the late Sen. Edmund Muskie from Rumford. The town celebrated the 50th anniversary of the law’s passage in May.
A similar paddle will be held July 31 in Canton.
