Avery Young of Dixfield plans this summer to join high school students from across the nation in an academic and career-oriented development experience, NYLF Engineering at Rice University in Houston Texas.
NYLF Engineering is one of the Envision by WorldStrides family of programs that enable students to explore their interests and experience learning beyond the classroom.
According to a news release from Envision, Young is the third student in the history of Dirigo High School to be nominated and attend the NYLF program.
He was nominated by his teacher and mentor Robert Fenning, who teaches a variety of math courses at Dirigo.
Young enjoys math, science, and history as well as spending time with his friends and family.
He has received multiple classroom awards for outstanding work during his freshman year at Dirigo. Young aspires to have a career in engineering.
