100 Years Ago: 1922

All members of the M.Y.O.B. Club met at their camp at Lake Grove Wednesday evening. A splendid entertainment was enjoyed. The second act of the “silent drama” was a great success. The leading parts were taken by Howard Shaw, Harry Kimball of Westbrook, and the Misses Jane Roux and Lucille Fournier.

Later in the evening, dancing took place, followed by a buffet lunch served by Helen Balfour and the president.  An out town guest was Miss Eva Tanguay of Bath

50 Years Ago: 1972

Building a community in the out-of-doors has been good for nearly 150 Girl Scouts at Camp Cedar Cove near Litchfield. Cedar Cove is owned and operated by the Kennebec Girl Scout Council, supported by profits from the annual Cookie sales and camper fees. “The camp Is directed by Miss Karen Zelinski of Auburn, a professional worker for Kennebec Council.

Girl Scouts and non-Scouts plan and carry out their own program with guidance from trained seasonal staff members, many of whom are teachers and college students gathered from far away as Florida,California, and England. Campers participate in a great variety of activities, including archery, outdoor cookery, swimming, canoeing, nature, conservation and ecology studies, weaving, candle making, hiking, folk dancing and many other activities.

A highlight of the first session was a Hawaiian luau complete with a fern “jungle”. and roasts cooked in Imus, a type of underground, rock-lined-oven.

25 Years Ago: 1997

The County Chords, a barbershop quartet, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday in All Souls Chapel on Ricker Hill, in Poland Spring. A donation of $3 per person is suggested. The Poland Extension will serve refreshments in the Maine State Building following the concert.
