HARTFORD — A Lewiston man died Monday when a vehicle he was driving went off the road and struck a tree on state Route 219, also known as Bear Pond Road.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office identified the driver as Mark MacKerron, 32, of Lewiston.
According to Sheriff Christopher Wainwright, deputies responded to a report a person with serious injuries from a motor vehicle accident at approximately 10:07 a.m. The driver of a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling east on Route 219 when the vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a tree.
MacKerron was flown by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he later died from his injuries, Wainwright said.
The crash remains under investigation.
