Richard L. Hester

LEWISTON – Richard L. Hester, 68, passed away unexpectedly at home on July 28, 2022, from natural causes. The oldest child of Geneva (Walton) and Harold Leo Hester, Rick was born in Presque Isle, on Aug. 11, 1953.

Rick graduated from high school in Goose Bay, Labrador, in 1971. In 1972, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served as a hospital corpsman for seven years until he was honorably discharged after developing epilepsy. He then went to college on the G.I. bill where he met his future wife, Dawn. In 1986, Rick became employed by the U.S Postal Service working one year in Lewiston and the remaining 25 at the Rodman Road facility in Auburn, retiring in 2012.

Besides his wife of 41 years, Rick is survived by his brothers, Jim, Mark (Heather), and Marty (Coleen) and his sister Kimberlee (Eric) Chevreux. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Michael St. Peter, his mother-in-law Sheila Deabay as well as Dawn’s brothers, Emery (Marie) and David Deabay and her sisters, Janice Clark, Ann Deabay, and Nancy (JP Parsons) Whitney, and many nieces and nephews. Rick also had many good friends at Fastbreaks, the Pit Bar and Grill, and the American Legion Post 158 in Lisbon.

Rick was predeceased by his parents, his sister Lindalee St. Peter, his father-in-law Allen Deabay and his brother-in-law Stephen Clark. He was also predeceased by his biological father Claude Bechard.

A special thank you to the DAV and the VA for all their help during this difficult time. An extra special thank you to Dr. Shannon Kenney, not only for her help during this difficult time but, for everything she has done for the two of us through Rick’s medical journey.

Per Rick’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick’s memory may be made to the American Legion Post 158,
