To the Editor:

As we close out our 7th year of “Mornings at the Museum”, we would like to say thank you to all those who participated, worked, volunteered, and financially supported our summer children’s program. This year’s theme was “Music and Dancing” and every week, we were treated to the happy music of “Fleur de Lis” while the children danced, made potholders and bracelets, walked on stilts, toured the Moses Mason House, drew chalk art, stitched burlap pictures, dressed in period clothing, and painted their own self-portraits!

Many thanks to MKA for bringing their children down every Thursday morning and to both local and visiting children who came every Thursday or whenever they could. The program was well staffed by adult volunteers and enthusiastic local high school and college Student Docents.

A special thanks to volunteers Donna Gillis and Jean Benedict for the amazing vintage clothing display and loads of dress-up clothes and hats, Melinda Remington for helping kids create burlap stitched pictures and pillows, D. Johannasen for doing setup and general overall supervision, and Beth Allen, Sarah Tucker, and Cheryl Doyle for overseeing whenever and wherever needed and making sure everyone was safe and happy.

And of course, our Artist in Residence, Nance Parker for guiding the children in painting amazing self-portraits and learning to look and create at an easel. Student Docents–Jarrett, Kaitlyn, Travis, Luci, Molly, Megan, EB, Ryan, Shelby, Grady, Brody, Cedar, Mia, Seth, and Ruth–have made it all happen and be a success. Thank you all and see you next July!
