Leanne Marie Turner (Cook)

JAY – Leanne Marie Turner (Cook), 84, passed peacefully on July 22, 2022. She was born on Oct. 6, 1937, a daughter of Lester and Katherine Cook Record. Leanne graduated from Jay High School in 1956, and married William H. Turner on Oct. 24, 1958. Bill and Leanne raised five children on their farm in East Jay. Leanne had a long, successful career at G.H. Bass and retired with many fond memories of her friends, co-workers, and work history.
Leanne, known to her family as Gram T, Grammie Turner Burner, Gram, and Leanda Lou will be remembered for her strong work ethic, dedication to caring for her family and friends, grit, and perseverance.

Gram T loved the simple things in life: barn chores, horse racing, Fryeburg Fair, family gatherings, coffee and donuts with friends, neighbors, a good game of cards, gardening, rocking and reading with “her kids,” anything chocolate, and yum-yum pie. While she was always even tempered you could see her competitive spirit come alive when she was joyfully watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren competing in sporting events, band concerts, show choir, dance recitals, and 4-H. It would not be uncommon for her to ring a cowbell and cheer just a little louder than the other grandparents.

Gram T will be missed for all of this and more, but her family is at peace knowing that she is with her husband and son, and all of her friends and family members that passed before her. Their celebration has already begun.

Leanne is survived by her children, Brenda (Matt) Clark of Jay, Ellen Turner of New York, Barbara (Scott) Burditt of Hampden, Donna (Mike) Lary of Jacksonville, and Kristen (Mike) Grondin of Jay; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Leanne was preceded by her parents, Lester and Katherine Cook; step-father, Stuart Record; husband, Bill Turner; sister, Sandra Hebert; son, Darren Turner.

The family would like to thank Joanna and Rolinda for years of caregiving and support. Also, a special thank you to her medical team, Susan, Renee, Dr. Michele Knapp and her husband Joe, for their compassion and grace over the last several years.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Wiles Remembrance Center 308 Franklin Road, Jay, Monday, August 15 from 4-6 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 16 at 11 a.m., at the Center. Interment will be at Webster Cemetery in Farmington. Memories may be shared in her Book of Memories at http://www.wilesrc.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Farmington Harness Horsemen’s Association (FHHA), 152 Pleasant St. Wilton, ME, 04294
