Wayne Saunders Hood

LEWISTON – Wayne Saunders Hood, 72, of Lewiston, died at his home on Monday, August 1, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Born in Berlin, N.H., on March 1, 1950, he was the youngest child of Ralph and Virginia Goodnow Hood. Educated in New Hampshire schools, he was a graduate of Berlin High School, class of 1969. He married the love of his life, the former Sherry L. Tatro, on April 24, 1971, and together they celebrated more than 51 years of marriage until his recent death from cancer.

Wayne worked for many years as a welder and mechanic. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with many great friends including his two best friends, David Pomeroy and Larry Newton. He especially enjoyed time spent at the camp on Round Pond in Aroostook County.

Besides his loving wife, he is survived by two daughters, Tracy Hood and partner Gregory Karkos, and Carry Gosselin and husband Donald, all of Lewiston; two granddaughters, Darian McAtee and partner, Cam Hart, and Kayla McAtee and partner, Casey Paladino; a great-granddaughter, due in October and intended to be named Alora Everly Hart; three sisters-in-law, Shizuko Hood of Presque Isle; Sandi (and Jim) Bosley of Florida, and Linda (and Richard) Greenwood of Vermont; also many nieces, nephews; other family and friends. He will be greatly missed by David and Mavis Pomeroy, and Larry and Ruth Newton, and all who knew him.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved sister, Roberta “Bobbie” Ann Aripez in 2010, his brothers Ed Little in 2011 and Warren Hood in 2017, and an infant brother who died at birth in 1946.

A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, at Gracelawn Memorial Park, Auburn.
