DEAR SUN SPOTS: I found an automobile key for a Chevrolet in Auburn, at the corner of Lake Street and Sunset Avenue. You can reach me at 207-784-6312.—No name, Auburn

ANSWER: Someone must be missing that and we all know today’s car keys are expensive to replace. Let us know what happens.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: My wife and I make all kinds of jams and jellies, one flavor being mountain ash berry. We are looking for people who would allow us to pick berry clusters from their mountain ash trees. We will return the favor by supplying them with jelly. We do not mind traveling to get the berries. Please contact us at 207-462-5178.–Fern and Sylvia, Norway

ANSWER: I had no idea that mountain ash berries could be used for jelly. I called Fern and they make their jelly by combining 1 cup berries with 4 cups apples. The fruit is brought to a boil then simmered for about 30 minutes, before the juice is strained. Then add sugar and Certo, a liquid pectin used in making jellies and jams, according to the package directions.

I have read this jelly is popular in Finland, where the berries are also used to make wine, but Fern said he learned about it years ago at a fair in Berlin, New Hampshire. I hope any readers with mountain ash trees will share some of their bounty so this couple can make this special jelly. And you will get a jar of your own jelly to try.

ANSWER: Another public supper to attend!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have two American flags that have never been removed from their covers. I was given these at my husband’s and sister’s military funerals and would like to donate them to a nonprofit group or organization. I hope you can give me some guidance.–No name no town

ANSWER: I suggest you contact Jerry Dewitt at 207-576-0376 or jdewitt@tcmhs.org . He is chairman of the Lewiston & Auburn Veterans Council, and I am sure he will have ideas to help you decide where to give these flags so they will be used in a way that will honor your service members and those who receive them.
