DIXFIELD — Grace Averill scored two goals, including the game-winner in the third quarter, for Dirigo in a season-opening 5-3 win over defending Class C state champion Winthrop in MVC field hockey action at Harlow Park on Wednesday.

Jayce Brophy also notched two goals and assisted on Emily Woods’ goal in the fourth quarter to make it 5-3 in favor of the Cougars (1-0). Grace Robbins assisted on both goals by Averill. Goalie Alivia Ellis made 14 saves in the win.

Bella Littler had two goals for the Ramblers (0-1) and Izzy Folsom had a tally. Madeline Wagner assisted on two goals and Madison Weymouth made five saves.

LEAVITT 3, CONY 2: Cierra Barker tallied a pair of goals and the defending Class B state champion Hornets (1-0) hung on for a season-opening win over the Rams (0-1) in Turner.

Katie Sirois opened the scoring off an assist from Jazzlyn Clark and Barker also scored in the first quarter to give Leavitt a 2-0 lead. Elise Cunningham cut the Cony deficit to 2-1 by halftime. Barker scored again in the third and Cunningham pulled the Rams back to within one in the fourth.

Lily Chabot secured the win in goal for the Hornets with nine saves, while Avery Maxim turned away 14 shots for Cony.

OAK HILL 3, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 2: Lexi Pelkey notched a goal and an assist for the Raiders (1-0) in a win over the Falcons (0-1) in Wales.

Izzy Whitaker and Emma Bourgoin potted goals for Oak Hill and goalie Ella Martin stopped seven shots.

Mallory Bourret scored twice in the first quarter for Mountain Valley and Brooke Brown stopped 19 shots.

LISBON 2, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 0: Maria Levesque stopped nine shots in the shutout win for the Greyhounds (1-0) over the Phoenix (0-1) in Lisbon.

Emily Libby scored in the second quarter and Kayla Cooper scored with under 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter for Lisbon.

Mallory Clark and Hannah Jewett combined to stop 16 shots for Spruce Mountain.

ST. DOMINIC 5, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER/NYA 0: Emily Andrews scored a pair of first quarter goals for the Saints (1-0) as they blanked the Patriots (0-1) in an opener in Auburn.

Loreli Bonney, Chloe Beauchesne and Lily Bonney all tallied second-half goals for St. Dominic.

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 3, POLAND 1: Eliza Thorne opened the scoring in the first quarter and set up a clinching goal by Olivia Towne in the fourth quarter as the Raiders (1-0) topped the Knights (0-1) in an opener at Fryeburg.

Towne assisted on Thorne’s goal nine minutes into the game. Grace Merley’s unassisted goal in the second quarter made it 2-0.

Sydney Lancombe scored an unassisted goal for Poland late in the first half.

Fryeburg goalie Rayna Wales made 10 saves. Addison Michaud stopped 12 shots for Poland.

GIRLS SOCCER
WELLS 3, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 1: Grace Badger scored a pair of goals to pace the Warriors (1-0) past the Patriots (0-1) in a season opener in Gray.

Kaitlyn Rooney also scored for Wells. Izzy Morelli notched the lone Gray-New Gloucester goal off an assist from Trinity Bean to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.

Savannah Tardiff made six saves for Wells and Isa Ross stopped four shots for the Patriots.

BOYS SOCCER
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 5, WELLS 2: Ben Cobb scored in each half, and Max Kenney recorded a goal and two assists as the Patriots topped the Warriors in Gray.

Aidan Hebert added a goal and an assist and Luka Rosolino also scored for the Patriots.
