Doris L. Hodgkins

ROXBURY – Doris L. Hodgkins, 94, of Roxbury passed away Sept. 13, 2022, at the Rumford Hospital. She was born in Standish, on March 11, 1928, and moved to Rumford in 1935. She was the second oldest of 15 children of Daniel Sr. and Mary (Votour) LeBlanc.

Doris graduated from Stephens High School in the class of 1947. She moved to Roxbury after her marriage to Alphonso Hodgkins on June 25, 1949, where she resided until the time of her death. She was a member of the Rumford and Mexico Historical Societies and the Acadian Historical Society. She was presented with the first Boston Gold Cane award from the town of Roxbury in 2016. She enjoyed reading, especially mystery novels, which she spent many nights curled up with a good book. Agatha Christie was one of her favorite authors. She was also a member of the Rumford Library Mystery Book Club. She had a special place in her heart for animals.

Doris is survived by her loving daughter Karen of Roxbury, four sisters, Hazel Hodgkins of Roxbury, Shirley Arsenault and husband John of Saco, Mary Olson and husband Chris of Wiscasset, Joanne Carver and husband Harry of Dixfield, several brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Alphonso, and her son David, brothers Raymond, Herman, Richard, Daniel Jr. and Clarence, Sisters Gladys, Laura, Suzanne, Yvonne, and Geraldine.

Celebration of Life will be held 1-4 p.m., on Saturday Oct. 8, 2022, at the Eagles Hall in Rumford. Interment will be in Pineview Cemetery in Roxbury. Arrangements are under the direction of the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford.
