LEWISTON — The Lewiston Education Association has released a statement denouncing a demonstration by a neo-Nazi group, following a community letter written by Superintendent Jake Langlais this week.
“The Lewiston Education Association condemns the recent presence of a neo-Nazi group at Kennedy Park,” according to the statement. “LEA values and affirms all races, national origins/ancestries, ethnicities and religions. We denounce all forms of hate, bigotry, intimidation and violence towards such groups.
“We stand in solidarity with our members, students, families and the greater community impacted by this abhorrent display of hate. We are united in our commitment to ensure that our schools communities are safe spaces for everyone. Racism and white supremacy have no place here.”
According to several reports, a group of about two dozen people from the Nationalist Social Club-131 assembled in Kennedy Park and walked through nearby neighborhoods on Oct. 2. An image on the group’s page on the social networking service Gab shows members holding a sign stating “End Somali Violence” in front of Lewiston City Hall.
