DEAR SUN SPOTS: Wales Presbyterian Church Women’s Group is holding its This ‘n That Sale on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 668 Pond Road/Route 132 in Wales.  We’ll have yard sale items, baked goods, a silent auction and raffle items, etc. For more information or to donate items (no clothing), contact Cheryl Foss at 754-2926 or Susan Bisson at 754-4185. — Susan, Monmouth

ANSWER: I hope Sun Spots readers will take a few minutes to delve into their storage spaces and come up with gently used items to donate. Or perhaps you’d like to bake a goodie or donate a unique crafted item or a service.

I’ve been attending a couple craft fairs every weekend lately and am so impressed with people’s talent and willingness to contribute to these fundraisers. This past Saturday I purchased two multicolored knit treasures made by a beautiful lady who is 97 years young! I had a wonderful conversation with her and she just made my day. Get out there and participate in some way, as a crafter, a baker, a traffic director, cashier, a shopper, or just a browser. You’ll be so glad you did!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Could you provide a list of Giving Trees, or a place where a knitter like myself could donate hats and mittens to be given away for free? Since the weather has changed, I have picked up my knitting needles and want to plan ahead this year rather than wait for the last minute. I appreciate it very much. — No name, no town

ANSWER: I’m putting this generous offer out into Sun Spots Land. You may also want to check with area stores such as one of the area Food City grocery stores (784-7020) and with the Auburn Mall (786-2977). I have seen Giving Trees at those locations in the past. Salvation Army (783-0801) could surely use these warm, cozy items. Other places that come to mind are the Trinity Jubilee Center (782-5700) and Hope House (577-1165).

Readers, if you’re aware of other ways to spread the joy and warmth of hand-knitted wares where they can be freely accessed, let us know!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am going to be eligible for Medicare soon and would like to know if there is a service in the Lewiston/Auburn/Poland area where I can meet with someone to explore Advantage Plan options. — No name, Poland

ANSWER: You may want to start at SeniorsPlus in Lewiston. According to its website, it has a team  of Medicare experts on staff to assist in getting the right Medicare coverage for a person’s situation for the right price. The number is 1-800-427-1241. The organization also has an online video to watch for information before meeting with an agent.

I’m familiar and comfortable with Wayne Ladner Insurance (http://www.wayneladnermaineinsurance.com/medicare.html, 737-4995) and have also had experience with Health Markets (https://www.healthmarkets.com/local-health-insurance-agent/jennlanglois/, 240-0352).

These are important choices for the years ahead so take your time and get all the information. Working with an agent really helps navigate these decisions.
