The Maine Turnpike exit that connects traffic with one of the state’s largest shopping malls will be closed this weekend to allow crews to demolish and remove the old toll booths just east of the new turnpike interchange.
Erin Courtney, Maine Turnpike Authority spokesperson, said in a release the Exit 45 on and off ramps will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. Friday and won’t reopen until Monday at 6 a.m. Drivers heading to the mall can use other turnpike interchanges during the shutdown.
Once the old toll booths are gone, the next phase of construction will involve demolishing the old bridge that carried traffic over the turnpike. That work may involve nighttime traffic stoppages in mid-November.
New toll plazas on the northbound and southbound sides of the Exit 45 reconstruction project opened on Oct. 5.
