Jack Winfield Cox
THE VILLAGES, Fla. – Jack Winfield Cox was born on Feb. 18, 1955 in Lewiston to Clarence and Thelma Cox of Auburn. He passed away on August 11, 2022 in The Villages, Fla. with his loving wife by his side.
Jack attended schools in Kittery where he had fond memories of growing up in “The Village”. He had a love for music that began at a very young age growing up and hearing his mother Teddy’s beautiful voice singing in the kitchen. He told stories of being inspired to play guitar one special evening spending time with his cousins Dottie and Cathy and from there he would sneak his father’s guitar from the hallway closet while he was away at work and accompany his mother in that same kitchen where she taught him all kinds of jazz standards. He went on to taking lessons from his gifted guitar teacher Gus Fiore and would practice until his fingers bled. Too young to play in bars he would often stand outside the door and listen to the other artists perform. Jack went on to play all over New England throughout his life. He played in bands such as The Murphy’s Law Breakers and the Silver Dollar Band that was awarded a Nashville recording contract after winning a national band competition as well as many other accolades over the years. He opened several music stores and dance halls where he found great joy in teaching and sharing music with others. A lover of the beach and sun, he happily retired to sunny Florida where he was privileged to spend his days making music with retired Nashville musicians. He was especially fond of being in the house band at Barb’s Barn.
Jack was a great lover of life who enjoyed spending time with his wife Janice, facetiming his grand babies and children, sailing, dancing, flying, riding his motorcycle, drag racing, tinkering, wheeling and dealing, exploring, going out to breakfast with friends and playing with his two dachshunds Frankie and Joey. He was a star in many ways, a ray of light to many and will be missed deeply.
Jack was predeceased by his sister Vicky Moulter and grandson Randy Cox both of Mechanic Falls. He is survived by his beloved wife Janice Cox of The Villages, Fla., brother Michael Cox of Kittery; daughter Kari Reed with her husband Chaz and their four daughters, Hannah, Micaela, Katherine and Juliana, of Bridgton; son Jeffery Cox of Mechanic Falls; and daughter Christine Kimball with her husband Randy and their three sons, Trafton, Gardner and Cameron, of Poland.
We will be holding a graveside service at Gracelawn Cemetery in Auburn on Saturday Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. with an evening out at the Silver Spur in Mechanic Falls that night in honor of his memory.
