Elaine Anastasio
RUMFORD – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Elaine Anastasio, 97, of both Rumford and Sidney. She passed away on Oct. 15, 2022 after a short illness. Elaine never had a bad word for anyone and was always friendly, laughing and always had a big smile.
Elaine was born on April 14, 1925, a daughter of Freeland and Alice (Wentworth) Estes, and raised in Rumford. She lived in Rumford for almost her entire life until she moved to Sidney with her daughter and son-in-law. She loved her town of Rumford and her friends. Elaine traveled with her daughter and husband to Largo, Fla. every winter.
Elaine graduated from Rumford High School in 1943. After graduation, Elaine became a dental assistant for a local dentist, Dr. Sheehee. She met her love of her life, Joseph Anastasio, and they married April 4, 1948. Elaine was a homemaker for many years raising both their children and cooking great meals. After the children were older, Elaine and her husband also owned and operated E&J’s for many years.
Elaine loved her Rumford United Methodist Church and all her church friends. She was very active within the church and was a Sunday school teacher. She was also involved in the Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls.
Elaine leaves behind two children, David Anastasio and and his wife, Sunny of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Jo-Ann Plourde and her husband, Richard of Sidney. She had two grandchildren, Benjamin Anastasio and his fiance, Jade, and Kate Williams and her husband, Rodney; one great-grandson, Davion; and many nieces and nephews that she loved.
Elaine was predeceased by her husband, Joseph of 50 years; and her sister, Bertha Holden.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Rumford United Methodist Church, 455 Linnell St., Rumford, ME 04276. A graveside service will be held on Friday, Nov. 4 at 12 p.m. at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 143 Blue Star Ave., Augusta, ME 04330.
