An article on the Auburn Planning Board’s Oct. 11 meeting (“Auburn Planning Board gives favorable recommendation for watershed density change,” Oct 12) noted that a member of that board had stated “somewhere along the line we’ve confused development with protecting our water source.”

That surprised me. The reason being, I graduated 62 years ago from Edward Little High School with a girl whose father was the head of the Auburn Water District. He and his board worked tirelessly to protect Lake Auburn.

As the years have passed, I’ve witnessed mayors, councilors, various board members and all water district directors supporting the watershed around Lake Auburn. I assumed our water supply was more important than development, but it doesn’t seem to be on the minds of today’s board members.

Would it be fair to assume developers’ pockets are more important than the drinking water for the residents of Auburn-Lewiston?
