A Norway teenager was killed Tuesday when his motorcycle crashed into the back of a school bus carrying student athletes in Gorham.

Gorham police say 18-year-old Casey Southworth hit the bus as it was making a left-hand turn from Route 202 onto Libby Avenue at 3:30 p.m. Southworth’s 2003 Kawasaki ZX600 motorcycle bounced off the bus and into the path of an oncoming car driven by Sarah Valeriani, 18, of Gorham, Chief Christopher Sanborn said Tuesday.

Southworth had “significant and life-threatening injuries” and was taken to Maine Medical Center, where he died, Sanborn said.

The school bus, driven by 64-year-old Dennis Dubay of Windham, was transporting field hockey players from Windham High School to a state quarterfinals playoff game at Scarborough High School. The students were evaluated at the scene and no injuries were reported.

The quarterfinal game was rescheduled for Thursday.

Gray Road, also known as Route 202, was closed for three hours after the crash as it was investigated by Gorham and Windham police and the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit.

Police are still investigating the crash and ask witnesses to call the police department at 222-1660.
