GREENWOOD — It took fire crews from seven towns nearly three hours to extinguish a 14.9-acre woods fire on an ATV/logging road off Rowe Hill Road on Thursday afternoon.

The initial call alerting emergency crews to smoke in the area came about 2:20 p.m., Woodstock Fire Chief Kyle Hopps said Thursday night.

About “one percent” of the fire spilled over the town border into Woodstock, he said.

The fire was limited to the woods and there was no structure or property damage.

A Maine Fire Service helicopter made water drops. Crews declared the fire extinguished at around 5:15 p.m.

“The biggest issue was manpower. There are only so many people around,” Hopps said.

Crews from Greenwood, Woodstock, Bethel, West Paris, South Paris, Rumford and Newry responded to the scene, Hopps said. Norway provided station coverage for the area while crews were on scene.

The Maine Fire Service is investigating the cause.
