Barbara Johnson (BJ) Ferguson

AUBURN – Barbara Johnson (BJ) Ferguson, 85, of Rumford passed away on Nov. 21, 2022 after battling lung cancer.

BJ was born on June 17, 1938 in Port Washington, NY to Helen Blanchard and Warren Johnson. She gained a nursing degree and dedicated her career to helping others.

She married her former husband, James Reid, and together they raised two sons and one daughter. James and BJ remained great friends their entire lives, to the delight of all who loved them.

BJ married one more, to her late husband, Carroll Ferguson, and gained two wonderful stepchildren in their union. BJ and Carroll spent much of their time traveling to the Caribbean, living in St. Croix for an extended period, and eventually settling back in Maine to their lake cabin.

If she wasn’t enjoying the outdoors, she always had her nose in a good book, or any book, really, with a pint of ice cream close by. She is known for her vivacious attitude towards life. Examples include swimming among hammerhead sharks and skydiving with her stepson, Darrel, at 80 years old.

BJ is survived by her children, James Reid and his wife Thurlene Reid, Tracey Dulac and her partner Matthew Welch, Eric Reid and his wife Joanne Reid, Dawn Ferguson and her partner George Graves, Darrel Ferguson and his wife Lisa Ferguson; and her grandchildren, Fable Reid, Zachary Dulac, Jamie Smart, Kelsey Dulac, Ryan Ferguson and Julia Reid; and her beloved dog, Pattycakes.

She was predeceased by her husband, Carroll Ferguson; her former husband, James Reid; her siblings, Richard, Bud and Jean; and her beloved dog, Riley.

BJ is remembered by her friends and family as a spirited, big-hearted mother, grandmother and friend. She will be deeply missed.

No services per BJ’s wishes.
