Gloria Wight Kelley

VIENNA – Gloria Wight Kelley was born on May 5, 1927 in Vienna, Maine, the daughter of Prescott and Monnis (Flagg) Wight. She passed away peacefully in her home with family on Nov. 25, 2022. Gloria married Harold Edwin Kelley on July 22, 1943. Edwin and Gloria moved into their home in Vienna on Jan. 1, 1944. Edwin passed away on March 28, 2010.

Gloria worked for DeMarianos at Sun Dial Manor; sold stockings door to door; tied fishing nets; tied flies for fishing for Pearson’s Sporting Goods; worked at the Corn Shop in Farmington Falls; worked in the kitchen at Elizabeth Ardens, Maine Chance Farm; raked blueberries many summers, picked apples and potatoes; worked at Kent Hill Prep School for 15 years; was a substitute postal clerk at Vienna Post Office for 18 years; sold Lonaberger Baskets; and worked at Winthrop Gem Shop.

Gloria was a member of Farm Bureau Extension for 67 years. She held all offices except Treasurer. After Extension ended, she was a member of Vienna Creative Women. She was a charter member of Vienna’s Millstream Grange NO. 574 and held the offices of Lady Assistant Steward and Pomona. She was a charter member of the Vienna Historical Society and had lead roles in local plays for many years.

Gloria loved babies and small children. She was very creative and talented. She won a great many blue ribbons at Farmington Fair. She crocheted, knitted, tatted, embroidered and made many quilts. She gardened both vegetables and flowers; made decorative flower arrangements; painted beautiful pictures; and wrote poetry.

Gloria was predeceased by Edwin; her parents; sister Phyllis Boyle, and brother Prescott Wight, Jr. She is survived by three children, Joyce (Don) Dusenbury of Ohio, Harold (Kathleen) Kelley of Vienna, and Audrey Smith of Lyman; sister Beatrice (Melvin) Boyle; eight grandchildrenl 13 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington on Thursday, from 1 – 4 p.m. A funeral service, celebrating her life will be on Friday at 1 p.m. Interment will take place in the family lot at Pine Grove Cemetery in Belgrade.
