Danny H. Barker

STONEHAM – Danny H. Barker, 71, of Stoneham, Maine, died Nov. 19, 2022, from complications of Parkinson’s disease. He was born on June 20, 1951, to Mertice Berry Barker and Carlton F. Barker, Jr.

He was a 1969 graduate of Fryeburg Academy and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from the University of Maine, Orono, in 1973. He taught elementary classroom and instrumental music in the Oxford Hills School district for 38 years. He was choir director and organist for several area churches, and sang with the Choral Art Society and the Mount Washington Valley Choral Society. He loved gardening, with a special fondness for dahlias, and often provided altar flowers for Sunday morning worship services. He was a member of the Lovell United Church of Christ.

A lifelong resident of Stoneham with a passionate interest in local history, he was considered the town historian, and was always willing to share his knowledge with anyone who had a question. He was happiest when working in his garden, playing the piano, collecting and researching family and Stoneham history, hiking in the White Mountains, and being with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Geneva; children Faith Royer (Mark) of Presque Isle, Maine, and Leigh Barker of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren Miles, Lily, Jaylynn, and Nolan; brother Thomas Barker, sister Andrea Fillebrown, uncle Durland Barker, and their families.
