RUMFORD – Gilbert H. “Bert” Ames, Jr, 59, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022 at his residence in Rumford. He was born on April 11, 1963, the son of Gilbert and Dianne (Gaudet) Ames.

Bert was a graduate of Rumford High School, class of 1981. He began his career working for Boise Cascade and continued through up to 9 Dragon. Bert loved the western mountains and he loved being outdoors hunting, fishing, boating, ATVing and snowmobiling, but the thing he cherished most was the time spent with his son, Hunter.

On a warm summer night, you might have seen Bert enjoying a drive down the road in his corvette.

Survivors include his son, Hunter Ames of Cheektowaga, N.Y.; his mother, Dianne Ames of Rumford; a sister, Donna Bryant and husband Tim of Chesterville; his nieces, Heather, Ashley and Courtney; great niece Remi; his fiancé Carmela Thompson of Farmington; and his dog Keesha. He was predeceased by his father Gilbert, Sr and his wife Donna.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon on Friday Dec. 9, 2022 at the Meader & Son Funeral Home 3 Franklin St., Rumford, Maine. Interment will be in the Farrington Morton Cemetery in Mexico. Friends and family are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m.
