Maine native Conor Lally helped lead the Boston Advantage to a 4-2 victory over the Twin City Thunder in a USPHL NCDC North Division game Tuesday at Lovell Arena Center Rink in Rockland, Massachusetts.
The defenseman from Scarborough tallied a pair of first-period goals. He now has five goals on the season and is tied for third in scoring among defensemen in the NCDC, with 22 points.
Before Lally found the back of the net, the Thunder jumped out to a 1-0 lead nearly eight minutes into the first period when James Tatro scored his first goal of the season. Ben Portner and defenseman Cullen McCormick notched the assists.
Tatro is one of many new additions the Thunder (10-14-1, 21 points) made last week. He comes from the Valley Junior Warriors program, which plays in the Tier III Eastern Hockey League, where he had a goal and nine assists in 21 games this season.
Lally potted his first goal just past the 13-minute mark, with Ethan Beaumont and Arik Altman setting the tally up.
Four minutes later, Lally added his second goal, giving the Advantage (15-10-1, 31 points) a 2-1 lead. Noah-David Dayan and Chance Heaphy recorded the assists.
The second period saw both teams score a power-play goal.
Ocean Fancy beat Thunder goalie Trey Miller (25 saves) nearly two minutes into the period.
Nolan Leonard scored his third goal of the year, putting the Thunder within 3-2 with under five minutes remaining in the second period. Tristan Rand and Martin Marnauzs each recorded their second assist of the season on the goal.
Altman scored 13 seconds into the third period on the man-advantage. Beaumont and Luke Panchisin provided the assists.
Boston was 2 for 5 on the power play and the Thunder were 1 for 4.
Artur Dzhilavyan made 27 saves in the victory.
Twin City returns to Norway Savings Bank Arena on Thursday with an 11:30 a.m. faceoff against the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs (17-8-3, 37 points). The Monarchs are in first place in the North Division, while the Thunder are in fifth place.
