SOUTH PARIS – Onni R. Raasumaa, 84, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday Dec. 24, 2022, at home. He was born June 6, 1938, in Paris Maine the son of the late Onni A. and Ellen S. (Maki) Raasumaa.
Onni attended and graduated from the local school system. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed on the DMZ in Korea.
After his time in the military, he served the citizens as an Oxford County Deputy and Maine State Police Reserve Trooper. He then started his 29-year career with CMP as a lineman. He worked his way up to supervisor before his retirement.
He married the love of his life, Carolynne Los on June 6, 1964.
There was not much that Onni could not do. He was a master at many things. He often used these talents to help others.
He was active in the South Paris VFW Post 9787 and served as Post Commander. Onni organized and spearheaded the design, implementation, and continued care of the Veterans Memorial in Moore Park. He and wife Carolynne donated many hours to this memorial project.
Onni was an avid car enthusiast who was partial to Fords. His collection of antique cars was very much admired. He was a member of the MOAL’s and attended many antique auto shows and flea markets. He was eager to strike up a conversation with friends as well as strangers. He enjoyed “tinkering and puttering” in his garage and woodlot.
It has been said Onni was a “collector of things” who had “stories to tell and lies to swap”.
Onni was predeceased by his loving parents Onni and Ellen Raasumaa, as well as brothers Taisto, Arvo, John, sisters Elsie, Helvi and Alli.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Carolynne Raasumaa; his daughter, Mary Kaspereen, and her husband Michael and granddaughter, Hannah; brother, Tarmo and sister, Jean of South Paris.
The family will receive friends on Saturday Dec. 31 from 10 to 12 p.m. with a memorial service starting at 12 p.m. at the Chandler Funeral Home and Cremation Services. 45 Main St., South Paris.
