MONMOUTH — The Cottrell-Taylor Committee held its annual food drive in December for its Christmas baskets for Monmouth families in need.
Laurie Gifford, committee chair for the past 16 years, said it has been an important focus for the committee to involve the students at Monmouth Middle School and Monmouth Academy, according to a news release from Michelle Neal, advisor.
The middle school holds a food drive to collect many of the non-perishable items that go into the baskets. Monmouth Academy participates in the food drive and volunteers to stock and inventory the baskets for collection. The hope is that the students recognize that even if they don’t have money to give, it is important to give of themselves and their time.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
