Fidele Nadeau

LEWISTON – Joseph Fidele Nadeau, 94, of Lewiston, passed away on Jan. 14, 2023, at Montello Manor, where he had resided for the past four years.

Fidele was born on June 24, 1928, in Lac Baker New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Alcime and Irene Soucy Nadeau. Fidele married Emerentienne “Amy” Robert in Baker Brook New Brunswick Canada on Aug. 30, 1954.

They later moved to Fort Kent Maine, eventually making their home in Lewiston Maine, where they raised their three sons Real, Michael and Alan. They became U.S. citizens on July 1, 1997.

Fidele, being one of the oldest of 18 children, began working at the early age of 12, selling and delivering goods for a local store. In his teens, he worked for Great Northern Paper, attaching trains to help move logs. In the 60’s, when they moved to Lewiston, he began to work for U.S. Gypsum/ International Paper Company, retiring in 1991. After he retired, he enjoyed gardening, playing cribbage and tinkering around his house.

Fidele is survived by son Real and Rita Lapointe Nadeau, son Michael Nadeau, son Alan and Sandy Labbe Nadeau, grand children: Joel Nadeau, Nicole Nadeau, Travis and Renee Nadeau, Louise and Trey Hardy, Dylan and Stephanie Nadeau, Heidi and Joshua Sirois; great granddaughters Khloe and Myla Nadeau and Acelyn Hardy and several nieces and nephews. Fidele is also survived by, his sister Marie Regina Nadeau Lang, brother Ronald and Corinne Caron Nadeau, sister Sr. Adele Nadeau and brother Clarence David and Ginette Poirier Nadeau.

He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years Emerentienne “Amy”, sisters: Marie Nadeau, Edna Nadeau Dubois, Olida Nadeau Plourde, Alda Nadeau, and brothers: Joseph, Eric, Edmond, Enoil, Alcime, Reginald, Renaud, Gilles, Evance.

A memorial visitation will be held at The Fortin Group Funeral Home in Auburn, 217 Turner St. from 4-7 p.m., on the 26th, a memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary, 131 High St, Sabattus at 11 a.m., on the 27th, with a burial at St. Peters cemetery to follow.
