John L. Tardiff Jr.

RUMFORD – John L. Tardiff Jr., 63, died Sunday Jan. 15, 2023, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington. He was a resident of Rumford.

Born in Bangor, Maine, on May 26, 1959, he was the son of John and June (Bartlett) Tardiff Sr. He was a graduate of Rumford High School class of 1978. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1982 as a Specialist 4th Class, leader of a Cannon Crew in Germany.

John worked as an Iron Worker for years with his brother and friends.

John was a gymnast and a Junior Olympian for eight years, an artist, an avid hunter and fisherman, he skied, scuba dived, taught bungee jumping as well as numerous other adventurous activities during his very full life.

He was the first to help a group or individual in need. John coached gymnastics at the GRCC, held leadership roles at the Snowshoe Club, volunteered his time and skills to the Holy Savior School and Church.

Johnny’s greatest love was for his son Joel, of whom John’s life revolved around. He also loved being a part of his son Dalton’s life. Johnny was the World’s Greatest Dad to his sons and Most Fun Uncle to C. Michael Davis, Jared Davis, Crystal Cloutier and their children.

Survivors include his sons Joel of Rumford, US Marine Dalton Noyes, a sister Renée Cloutier and her husband Dale of Durham and his brother Gary and his fiancé Bobbie McCaffrey of Rumford.

A celebration of Life will be held 12 – 4 p.m., on Sunday Feb. 19, 2023 at the American Legion on Congress St in Rumford. Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. Arrangements are under the direction of the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford.
