SANDY RIVER PLANTATION — Area athletes won three of the four giant slalom titles up for grabs on the first day of the KVAC and MVC Alpine skiing championships at Saddleback Mountain on Wednesday.

Mt. Blue’s Taylor Gordon won the girls KVAC GS with a time of 1 minute, 29.72 seconds, which was the fastest time skied in either of the four races. Camden Hills’ Landon Marquis was the boys KVAC winner, finishing in 1:29.94.

Mountain Valley’s Jaden Boulanger earned the girls MVC championship, and Mt. Abram’s Charlie Pye is the boys champion.

The KVAC and MVC championships conclude Saturday with the slalom races at Titcomb Mountain in Farmington.

The Edward Little boys had four skiers place in the top 10, led by Ethan Levesque’s fourth-place finish. Evan O’Donnell placed fifth, Calvin Vincent eighth and Brayden Bashaw ninth.

Maranacook’s Thatcher Riley was the runner-up to Marquis, and Mt. Blue’s Trent Beaudoin came in third.

Oxford Hills’ Silas Timm and Ross Campbell took sixth and seventh, respectively. Rounding out the top 10 was Skowhegan’s Asa Stroman. Leavitt’s top finisher was Austin Gates, who was 23rd.

Edward Little/Leavitt’s Sophie Simard came in second behind Gordon in the girls race. The Cougars and the Red Eddies claimed seven of the top 10 spots.

Mt. Blue’s Katie Yeaton took third, teammate Vivian Cormier was fifth and Abby Goodspeed came in 10th. For Edward Little/Leavitt, Lily Anctil (seventh) and Anaya Egge (ninth) joined Simard in the top 10.

Maranacook’s Phoebe Bell took fourth, Camden Hills’ Zola Roberts was sixth and Oxford Hills’ Gianna DeVivo was eighth.

In the MVC girls race, Rangeley’s Breezy Quimby came in second behind Jaden Boulanger. Lily Boulanger, also of Mountain Valley, was third, Rangeley’s Amelia Stokes took fourth and Mt. Abram’s Lily Day came in fifth.

The rest of the top 10, in order, was Telstar’s Jocelyn Nivus, Monmouth’s Annabelle Carleton, Rangeley’s Natalie Stokes, and a pair of Mountain Valley skiers in ninth and 10th, Aubrey Farnum and Bailee Martin.

Ruby Spencer was the top finisher for Spruce Mountain, coming in 15th.

Including Pye, the Mt. Abram boys had six place in the top 10: Lyle Hering fifth, Tre Pease sixth, Trevor Nichols seventh, Nick Rush eighth and Aden Richards ninth.

Mountain Valley’s Joel Tardiff placed second and teammate Nate Gallant was fourth. In between those two was Winthrop’s Will Grant in third. Rangeley’s Nate Bliss took 10th.
