WELLS — Oceanside junior Maddie Ripley, coming off making history as the first girl in Maine to win an open state championship, backed up her Class B 106-pound title by winning the girls 107-pound crown, beating Mt. Blue freshman Brooklynn Webber, 14-4, in the final Tuesday at the girls wrestling state championships at Wells High School.

Mt. Blue had five girls place in the top three, led by champions Grace Allen (120) and Kendall Foster (165). Logan Smith (100) and Sadie Lee (165) finished in third place in their respective weight classes.

Lisbon/Oak Hill’s Gabi Turner took third place at 120 pounds.

Layla Purcell, a sophomore at Mt. Ararat, won all three of her matches by pin, including beating Paige Stephenson of Massabesic in 20 seconds in the final of the 114-pound division, which had nine wrestlers — the most of any weight class.

“It takes a lot of dedication. Wrestling to me is not just a winter sport,” Purcell said. “When I work out in the spring, it’s for wrestling. It’s to get better.”

Noble freshman Hannah Perro won the 100-pound division with a pair of pins. Perro was 25-14 for Noble’s Class A championship team during the regular season but was not able to crack the postseason roster.

“I was really looking forward to this tournament, and for the past two weeks I’ve just been preparing myself at practice, making sure I work hard,” Perro said.

The 126-pound final went to overtime, with Jocelyn Parlin taking a 10-7 win against Delanie Rector of Morse.

York senior Alissa Caltagirone won the six-wrestler 138-pound division, stopping Molly Sipple of Piscataquis, 16-4.

Other winners were Mya Moran of Bucksport (132), Abby Glidden of Massabesic (145), Grace Jean of Caribou (185) and Kloee Moore of Old Town (235).
