Rachel Ferrante watches Orson Horchler, Eugene Registe and Alban Bowens hang a portrait Wednesday of Djamal, an Auburn resident, on the future home of the Maine Museum of Innovation, Learning and Labor in Lewiston. Horchler, a Portland-based artist, created six portraits that replaced the “Future Home of Museum L-A” signage. When Museum L-A took on the new name Maine MILL on Feb. 1, Ferrante, the museum’s executive director, took the opportunity to feature what the museum is about — Mainers. “When the sign came down, it seemed like a good opportunity to do something new, cool and different,” said Ferrante.
