As far as I know I don’t have any French ancestors. If I did, I would be proud of it.
I can’t imagine why anyone would want to change the name of the Franco American Heritage Center to Riverfront whatever. Lewiston is one of the, if not the largest, French communities in the state.
Changing the name to something that does not reflect the ethnicity of this city is thoughtless, careless, irresponsible, shameful and just wrong on every level. It reflects that the people of this community are not proud of their heritage, when in fact the people of this community are extremely proud of their heritage, as they should be.
Whoever is responsible for making this change needs to wake up and do the right thing.
