GREENSBORO, N.C. — Bates College senior Nathan Berry added two more All-American honors Saturday during the final day of the NCAA Division III swimming and diving championships.

Berry, a senior from Augusta, reached the finals of the 100-yard freestyle and helped the men’s 400 freestyle relay reach the finals, along with Cory Maximillian, Nathan Sommer and Nathaniel Pierce.

Berry, who will finish the NCAA championships with six All-American honors, placed eighth in the 100 free prelim and finished in the same spot in the championship final, with a time of 45.05 seconds.

The Bobcats’ 400 free relay was 11th in the prelims (3:01.23) to qualify for the consolation final. Advancing to the consolation final guarantees a top-16 finish, which is the threshold for All-Americans. Bates finished fourth in the consolation final, and 12th overall in the event, with a time of 3:00.38, beating its prelim time by nearly one second.

Bates’ Mark Gregory finished one spot shy of being an All-American in the 1,650 freestyle, coming in 17th.

The Bobcats’ women’s 400 free relay team of Grace Wenger, Stephanie Tropper, Natalie Young and Sophie Cassily took 21st.

Also for Bates on Saturday, Abigail Gibbons placed 36th in the 200 breaststroke.

BASEBALL
BOBCATS TAKE TWO: Bates (6-2) swept both games of a doubleheader against Brandeis (2-6) in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Four-run fourth and fifth innings propelled the Bobcats to a 13-8 victory in the opener.

Henry Jamieson and Drew Fallon both homered for Bates. Jamieson paced the offense with three hits, while Christopher Cimino, Brandon Biggane and Brennan Kelley had two hits each. Jamieson also drove in a team-high three runs.

Bobcats pitcher Max Dio earn the win, going five innings and holding Brandeis (18-17) to four runs and four hits.

Bates won the second game 9-3.

Tyler Attal homered, doubled and scored three runs. Cimino drove in three runs, while Fallon and Jamieson each doubled.

BLACK BEARS SWEEP RETRIEVERS: Dylan McNary and Jake Rainess had two home runs apiece to fuel the offense for Maine (6-11, 2-1 America East) as they took Game 1 from Maryland-Baltimore County 15-7 at Baltimore, Maryland.

Jeremiah Jenkins was 2 for 5 with a homer and four RBIs for the Black Bears, while Myles Sargent added a pair of hits.

Gianni Gambardella grabbed the victory, going 5 1/3 innings and allowing five runs on five hits, fanning six and walking a pair before being relieved by Oxford Hills grad Colton Carson. Carson allowed one run on two hits and a walk while recording one out.

The Black Bears held on for an 8-7 win in Game 2. Rainess and Quinn McDaniel hit doubles and Myles Sargent had two hits. Maine scored four in the first and four more in the fourth, then sweated out UMBC’s four-run bottom of the eighth.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE
AMHERST 12, BATES 8: Trish Balser, Caroline Taggart and Sadie O’Neil each scored twice for Bates (4-4, 0-3 NESCAC) in a loss to the Mammoths (4-1, 2-1) in Amherst, Massachusetts.

MEN’S LACROSSE
ST. LAWRENCE 16, BATES 7: Wil Masterson paced Bates (0-5) with four goals in a loss to the Saints (5-0) in the Mustang Classic at Owings Mills, Maryland.

SOFTBALL
DARTMOUTH 1, MAINE 0: Alexandra Gruitch allowed only three hits but gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Black Bears (7-17) lost to the Big Green (5-10) in Moraga, California.
