Rosaire “Al” Duquette

LEWISTON – Rosaire “Al” Duquette, 81, passed away Monday March 20, 2023 with his daughter and family by his side.

Born in Lewiston June 23, 1941, Al went to Lewiston schools before joining the Army at a young age. He was honorably discharged due to an accident involving a tank which caused him to lose his left hand. That didn’t stop him from doing the things he loved. On May 4, 1963 he married the love of his life Monique (Giguere) where they made their home in Lewiston.

Al enjoyed spending time with his family and going to family gatherings having a BBQ of smoked ribs at his daughter Karen and son in-law Chuck’s house while watching his great-grandsons swim in the pool. Al and his wife spent many years camping at The Birches and Riverbend Campground and driving up to Boothbay with friends for the weekend. Al and his wife would go on adventures to the casino and the Big E before her passing.

He enjoyed fishing and meeting his friends Marc and Hank every Sunday for morning coffee at Sam’s. He enjoyed going to the casino with his brother-in-law, Ed, enjoyed working in his woodshed making birdhouses and any other projects he could think of.

He looked forward to his granddaughter, Megan and Connor coming over on Monday nights to cook him a special dinner and play skipbo. In the summer he liked spending time sitting in his garage with his little dog, Chica. He had a special bond with his neighbor whom he thought of as his grandson, Tyler Nadeau and his wife Natalie. Tyler would bring special meals his wife Natalie would make for Al, sit, and chat in his garage while they found little projects to do.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Chapter 11 Disable Veterans, Mason of Webster Lodge #164 Wales, and a member of the Kora Shrine Provost unit which he took pride in.

Al is survived by his daughter, Karen (Duquette) Cullins and her husband Chuck of Lewiston; three granddaughters, Amy Phillips of Lewiston, Kayla Parsons and her husband John of Sabattus and Megan Cullins and her fiancé Connor Ullrich of Lewiston; three great-grandsons, Liam, Owen and Kaiden Parsons of Sabattus; his brother-in-law, Eddie Giguere and his wife, Barbara of Lewiston and his sister-in-law, Irene Libby and her husband Dave of Gray.

He was predeceased by his wife, Monique, of 57 years; and his nephew, Randy Provencher.

The family invites you to a time of visitation on April 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Fortin Group Funeral Home, Lewiston. A Liturgy of the Word will immediately follow the visitation at 1 p.m. A committal service will take place on Monday April 3, 10 a.m. at St. Peters Cemetery.

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff at St Mary’s, Russell Park Rehabilitation and Living Center and Interim Healthcare especially his nurse, Lisa McKenzie, who went above and beyond to provide Al excellent care.
