AUBURN — The Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments recently recognized four regional projects that demonstrate new and innovative approaches to serving the citizens of Western Maine and to promote those projects that have proven successful and effective, as an example for others.
Each year nominations are solicited from council’s membership. Nominations are accepted for projects and/or the efforts of individuals or groups that have been instrumental in achieving stated goals.
Award recipients were presented certificates of achievement at AVCOG’s annual General Assembly meeting April 26 at Martindale Country Club in Auburn, according to a news release from Ethan Vinson with the regional planning agency.
Awards for outstanding achievements were presented in four categories:
• Business and Economic Development: Pennacook Falls Investments Ltd., Best Western Plus, Rumford Falls
• Environmental: Paint Care Maine
• Planning: The Mahoosuc Sustainable Tourism Committee, The Mahoosuc Way
• Transportation: Town of Carrabassett Valley, Trail Bridge Projects

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
