Deborah A. Dwyer

AUBURN – Deborah Dwyer, 89, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2023, at the Androscoggin Hospice House.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, she was the eldest daughter of the Rev. John and Tena (Thompson) Bengtson. Debby graduated from Albert City High School in Iowa and then earned a degree in liberal arts at North Park Jr. College in Chicago. It was there that she met her husband, Edward.

Debby and Ed were married in June of 1955 and lived in New Jersey until moving to Maine with their two daughters in 1970.

Debby pursued various administrative assistant positions over her lifetime, retiring from the City of Auburn highway department. She had a deep faith and was an active member of Court Street Baptist Church for many years, serving on various committees, singing in the choir and developing lifelong friendships there. She was also a member of the Auburn Art Club.

In retirement Debby and her husband had the opportunity to travel and spend winters in Vero Beach, Florida with many of their friends from college. Her children and grandchildren loved visiting her there. Debby enjoyed sewing and knitting and knit special Christmas stockings for her family. She was a kind and caring mom who will be greatly missed.

Debby was predeceased by her parents, sister Ruth Peterson, and her husband Edward.

Survivors include daughters, Cindy (Kim) Visbaras and Julie (Paul) Farnsworth, grandchildren Christie (Visbaras) Sweet, Lindsey (Visbaras) Madden, Nathan Farnsworth, great grandson James Madden and sisters Lois Christensen, Mary Ruch and Eunice Nelson along with many nieces and a nephew.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 6, from 10-11 a.m., at Court Street Baptist Church, located on 129 Court Street in Auburn, immediately followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., and a reception to follow at the church.
