RUMFORD – June Sandra Lemay, 74, and lifelong resident of Rumford, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening May 28, 2023, at her home. She was born in Rumford on July 1, 1948, one of six children born to Pierre and Aline (Lizotte) Lemay and was educated in Rumford schools. June graduated from Stephens High School and went to work in the area mills until she retired at 30 Andover Rd. in Rumford Center.

She was truly a free spirit and a lover of nature. June loved her animals and working, always keeping her farm in tip-top shape. She was a loving, devoted and hardworking daughter, sister and aunt who will be dearly missed.

She will be sadly missed by her three sisters, Louise Horne of Dixfield, Gail Dakin of Mexico and Rose Casteel of Iowa; her four nieces, Kathy Horne of Dixfield, Tami Hamel of Dixfield, Lisa Hendersen of West Paris, and Denise Anderson of Iowa, and five nephews, Eric Gamez of Dixfield, Edward Akers of Bridgton, Michael Akers of West Paris, Kirk Hamel of Mexico and Dennis Casteel and of Maryland.

She was predeceased by her mother and father, Pierre and Aline Lemay; her brother, Lawrence P. Lemay, her sister, Claire E. Akers; and her nephews David Horne, Brian Casteel, and Timothy Casteel.

At June’s prior request, the burial will be private and a celebration of her life will take place at her home on her birthday, July 1 at 2 p.m.
