STANDISH — After a senior season in which she excelled on the mound and at the plate, Searsport’s Ana Lang was named Miss Maine Softball on Wednesday night at the C/D and A/B senior all-star games at St. Joseph’s College.
The award is given annually to the top senior softball player in Maine as chosen by the Maine High School Softball Coaches Association.
Lang, the first winner from Searsport, put up remarkable batting numbers, averaging .620 with 31 hits, 21 runs, 23 RBI and four home runs.
She also dazzled on the mound, boasting a 0.96 ERA with a record of 11-5. She recorded 300 strikeouts in 123 innings during the regular season and added 50 strikeouts in three playoff games. She finished her three-year career with 995 strikeouts.
After losing her freshman season to COVID, Lang led the Tigers to three straight appearances in the Class D South final and back-to-back state championships in 2021 and 2022. This year, Searsport lost 2-1 to North Yarmouth Academy in the regional final.
“It feels like my hard work has paid off, it feels good,” Lang said about winning Miss Maine Softball. “Playing Class D, a lot of people doubt us because we come from small schools, but I don’t think that has anything to do with talent or commitment.”
Lang will continue to play softball at Husson University next year.
Other finalists were Charlotte Donovan of Biddeford, Brooklyn Federico of Monmouth Academy, Ella Hosford of Bucksport, Kaydence Morse of Oxford Hills, and Lyndsee Reed of Hermon.
