One person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation after a fire Monday night in Old Orchard Beach.

The fire at 44 Colby Ave. was reported around 10 p.m. in the town’s Ocean Park Village. When crews arrived, they reported seeing smoke coming from an attic area in the three-story wood-frame building.

Fire Chief John Gilboy said the one resident in the home was taken to the hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation. The single-family home is likely a total loss, he said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious, Gilboy said. The investigation also will determine if there were working smoke detectors in the house, he said. Investigators from the state Fire Marshal’s Office were expected to visit the scene Tuesday morning.

Firefighters from Scarborough, Saco, Biddeford and Goodwins Mills provided mutual aid.
