AUGUSTA — A federal law enforcement investigation involving a traffic stop drew a large police response to a gas station in Augusta Friday afternoon.
At around 2:30 p.m., multiple officers with the FBI, Augusta Police Department and Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office had gathered at MD’s Market at 240 Riverside Drive, near the road’s intersection with state Route 3.
Kevin Lully, deputy chief of Augusta Police, said in an email there was no imminent threat as a result of the response.
Lully said Augusta police officers conducted the traffic stop on a vehicle, and both the vehicle and its occupants were then turned over “to our federal counterparts.”
“For details pertaining to any potential charges and/or investigation related questions you may wish to consult with the arresting agency,” Lully wrote.
The FBI could not be immediately reached Friday.
