BETHEL — On Saturday, July 15, the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary here in Bethel, will be manning (and womaning) a tent at the Summerfest on the Town Common. Please stop by and learn about the American Legion and the Auxiliary and what we do for veterans and the families of deployed military.
The Auxiliary will also be accepting can pop-tops which will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House. We are also accepting donations earmarked for The Sisters in Arms Center, a homeless shelter for female veterans and their children.
All monies donated go towards the purchase of essential household items, toilet paper, personal items, etc. It also helps to pay for oil, electricity, and other monthly expenses. Remember, women are Veterans too. See you there!

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
