Tim Cowan

AUBURN — Tim Cowan, a public health professional and longtime Auburn resident, is running for the Ward 2 City Council seat in the November election.

Cowan, the director of Community Health Surveillance and Evaluation at MaineHealth, said he’s running “to ensure that the views and concerns of all residents in Ward 2 are respectfully considered in City Council decisions.”

“Through my work and volunteer service, I’ve learned that the best solutions are developed by listening to many perspectives, including those affected by the decisions, as well as from professionals in the field,” he said.

Cowan graduated from Bates College in 1991 and received a master’s degree in public health from the University of South Carolina in 1994. He and his wife moved to Auburn in 2000, raising their two children.

Cowan has volunteered with many community organizations, including as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader and chairman of his church’s board of trustees. He’s also been a member of Auburn’s State of the Schools Committee, and has been chairman of the Healthy Androscoggin Advisory Council. Cowan is president of the Lewiston-Auburn Community Little Theatre.

“As a city councilor, I will listen to and seriously consider the views of the residents of Auburn and work collaboratively with the members of the City Council to develop the best solutions possible to meet Auburn’s current needs and achieve its future goals. While at the same time considering the impact on Auburn’s natural resources and the effective use of municipal funds,” he said.
